Adoption Write-up

Aww. Look at this little kerry spitfire. Meet Southwest Lucy, a 1.5 yo spayed, purebred kerry in need of a new home due to some family conflict. Lucy is a spunky, high-energy kerry, as is to be expected for such a youngster. She is on the small side, but she is a big talker. Talks all the time. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk. Barks, whines, growls, mutters, etc. No shortage of opinions from this one. :-) Lucy is affectionate, sweet, funny, and walks decently on a leash -- she's not perfect, but has the basic idea. She is mostly potty-trained but will have accidents when she's nervous or is adjusting to new surroundings; her new home should be one that takes these little mistakes in stride.

Like many kerries, Lucy believes in following her humans from room to room at all times, so her new home should welcome her attentiveness. Also, all members of the family should be prepared for lap duty. Lucy knows exactly what humans' laps are for (they're for her to park herself on and give you kisses). Lucy gets along okay with other dogs, but there can be some posturing (growling, charging, etc.). It may be that she just doesn't know how to socialize properly, or that she is experimenting with who's in charge. Lucy's new family should be one that can be there for her with constructive, positive training to help her learn how to meet and greet nicely. The best home for Lucy is one where someone is home most of the day to give her loving, training, socialization, and exercise. Super-athlete Lucy will need a home with a yard with a high, secure fence, and where she gets to go for lots of adventures, such as to the dog park, hiking or running with her humans, running errands around town, etc.

Lucy is being fostered in the southwest, but can travel for the right home. If you think you might be a match with Lucy, or know someone else who might be, complete the adoption questionnaire and/or contact Sharon Arkoff at The suggested donation for adopting Lucy is $400.
