Subject: A follow up on Jesse from Dallas Express rescue Aug 07
Date: July 11, 2008 2:02:54 PM PDT

Last August two of the three dogs from the Dallas Express rescue arrived in the SF Bay Area. One of them was originally called Lil Bubba but upon arrival here immediately became Jesse. He was placed with Susan and Marshall. Following a recent inquiry they sent me the following note on his progress. [...]

Eileen Andrade
Rescue Coordinator for the Southwest

Sorry to be so long getting back to you about Jesse but my mom had a stroke mid June and I've been really busy setting her up with care givers etc.

Anyway Jesse is doing great! He is so sweet to Marshall and me. His real personality is finally starting to emerge. I remember you telling me it takes a couple of years and I think you are right. He is still leary of people but he accepts them over time. It took him about six months to warm up to our gardener but one day Alfonso reached down and Jesse let him touch his beard and they have been good friends ever since.

He likes to go for short car rides but gets nervous (panting) on long trips to Tahoe. He is basically a home body and loves to run around the yard using ladders and retaining walls as a makeshift obstacle course to burn off energy. Jesse adores other dogs but is at his best with a peer not an alpha dog.

We were starting to have a problem with him marking particularly when we would visit my mother in Tahoe (prior to her stroke) but had him neutered a couple of months ago and the marking stopped and he seems more relaxed without all those hormones surging through him.

I know I have said it before but I will try to get you some pictures for the Foundation to post for a followup story on his rescue.

We may be up for another rescue dog in a year or so. We have found the whole process of watching Jesse go from an almost robotic like demeanor to a lively, loving dog very rewarding.

Hope all is well in your world.

Susan and Marshall
