On August 3, his new family writes:

Thanks once again for all your help in getting Guinness home. He has adapted well and is either going 100 miles and hour, or sleeping! The crate training is coming along – he only complains for about 10 minutes before giving up and settling down and he’s managing about 8 hours of sleep every night.

Rita, as the caregiver of Olivia and her pups you can take a deep, deep bow!
I've just come back from visiting Guinness who was placed with Steve & Chris
Gentles here in Alberta, Canada. That is the best dang Kerry pup ever!!!!
First off - he does not bark. Period. He may give a little play woof with
a toy, but I could not believe when I rang the doorbell that a Kerry lived
here. Mind you, I'm sure some of you on the list have perfect dogs that
don't announce visitors, but I've never met one.

Guinness is learning to sit at the door to greet visitors, although the
wiggle in his bum is very hard to contain at only 5 months of age. He has a
wavy coat of lovely soft black hair, a beautiful head and the gangly long
legs of a budding little man. He is very happy and friendly and extremely
well behaved as Chris and I plucked some ear hair, inspected feet and
emerging testes, and discussed grooming.

Chris & Steve are taking Guinness to obedience class soon, but she asked
about teaching a sit/stay. Oh my goodness - I put him into a sit beside me
and told him to stay, 2 seconds and his bum lifted, put him back in position
and that was it - HE STAYED. Gosh he's smart! Mind you, we didn't push him
past 20 seconds, but he definitely had the idea. We played a little more
then Chris' daughter Emily tried and he stayed for her, too. After a play
in the yard, we went inside to show Chris the grooming info on the web site
and Guinness was following us with wet, muddy feet. Emily picked him up and
put him in the sink for a foot wash. He quietly accepted the wash and
towelling before being released into the living room with a little hop and
skip to pick up a toy to present to me.

Inside the house, we tried a "leave it" command. He sat staring at the
treat dutifully waiting for release. He actually sat and stayed so well
that he wasn't sure he should get up when we let him take it! He looked up
for confirmation that it was now OK to move and wiggled his way forward for
his treat.

This little guy is so smart and I'm sure he is going to be top of his
obedience class. The Gentles family are thrilled with his temperament and
head over heels in love.

It is absolutely heart-warming to know that out of the gruesome beginnings
in a puppy mill, these puppies had the chance to be born outside of that
life and into the kind of loving home every dog deserves.

Kudos to Chris & Steve Gentles for their "parenting" and to Rita Lockwood
for fostering this family and giving them such a great headstart. Bless you

A few Guinness shots for you. The movie is a post bath roll on the carpet. The sweater has come in handy over the past few days!
