Hard Boiled Softyby Emily Lux
Part plush. Part ball. All fun! This Hard Boiled Softy from Kyjen boasts a thick inner rubber shell that gives the toy a slight bounce. A cushy plush exterior is pleasing to the touch…err, I mean the bite. For extra toughness, durable canvas lines the underside of the plush. This critter is perfectly sized for carrying, tossing or resting one’s weary head after a long day of play. Finn couldn’t decide how to play with the lamb first: as a plush or as a ball. So he did both. He began by flinging his egg-shaped buddy across the lawn, accompanied with excited barks of happiness. Finn would momentarily break to gnaw on the toy’s ears and tootsies. But his most favorite: the honk. The deep honking sound of the inner shell was a welcome change from his other high-pitched squeakers.
Kyjen says that this toy is hard enough to stand up to some of the most aggressive chewers. Maybe. It’s a tough toy but it’s not invincible. Four months later and a few appendages less, the lamb is still as much fun as the first day. But when Finn tears the plush exterior – and he WILL eventually break through – he’ll be left with a “naked” blue shell. And that’s not much fun. How durable will the shell be without a covering? Who knows, but my guess would be much less. If Kyjen was smart, the company would sell replacement plushes for such toy emergencies. (Note to Kyjen: marketing opportunity here!) All in all, this egg buddy is eggs-actly what Finn was looking for (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun). Definitely one to add to every Kerry’s toy box. Purchased from dogtoys.com for $12.99.
