St. Patrick's Day, 1933

Mrs. Charles H. Jackson, Jr., Santa Barbara, California, judged Kerries at the St. Patrick Day championship show held in Dublin, Ireland. Mr. Benedict Reynolds brought me the following report of the show:

"The weather was on its worst behavior for the opening of the 12th Irish Kennel Club show, and we thought for once the luck of St. Patrick's Day bad deserted the cheery optimists who select March 17 for an outdoor fixture. Torrents of rain descended as we all wended our way to Ballsbridge, and the ground was very sodden. But, soon after 11 A.M., the sky cleared, and by mid-day, the sun was shining, and for the rest of the day, the weather was brilliant."

"There was always a big crowd around the ring where Mrs. Jackson was judging, and needless to say, she put up a wonderful job. She thoroughly overhauled the dogs, and her task must have been very difficult with so many terriers shown in the rough. "At the conclusion of the judging, a very charming little ceremony took place. Mr. Justice Hanna presented her with a gold and diamond brooch, a replica of the Tara brooch found at the excavation of Tara, the seat of the old Kings of Ireland. The gift was from the members and committee of the Dublin Irish Blue Terrier Club, and on the back was inscribed in Irish: 'Welcome to Ireland St. Patrick's Day, 1933, to Mrs. C. H. Jackson from D. I. B. T. C."

"Mrs. Jackson was delighted with her gift, and said the present would always be with her to remind her of her enjoyable visit to Ireland."

"She made a great impression on the Irish people, who were impressed by her expert knowledge of one of their favorite breeds."
