52 Pick-Up

by Michael McCarthy, Ottawa, ON

If you are looking for an interesting game, try '52 pick-up'. Call your Kerry(s) to a sit-stay or a stack position. Then take a handful of frozen peas and throw them against a wall. Give the release command. Stand well back and watch the nose, tail and leg action as they madly scurry around looking for each and every pea. It's nutritious and it's fun (for who the most, we are not sure).

For a twist sprinkle some peas into their toy box. Watch out for flying toys.

For other variations try the following: Go to a pet store. Pretend to management that you are interested in the cat food sample giveaways. Take one or two of the freebie packages and scatter the cat food in the same way as the peas. Or, if your Kerry is addicted to carrots as is ours, take carrot peelings and hang them in various locations. Be careful though, because you don't want scratches on furniture or things knocked over as your Kerry does a scramble.

Always sit-stay or a stack your dog before hand and always let it see what you're doing before giving the release command.
