Mex. CH Kharacters Misty Murphy

(above and below)

August 9, 1982 October 7, 1998

Owner: Hoppy Hopkins, Green Valley, AZ
Breeder: Charles A. Barrick, formerly of Ojai, CA (now FL)
Sire: Tontine's Summer Sailor
Dam: CH Kharacters Fan Dancer

"Murphy," a great-grandson of CH Melbees Chances Are, earned his Mexican championship before reaching 2 years of age. His pedigree includes Tontine, Townshend, and Valoramor bloodlines (including Am. Mex. CH Tontine's Something Else, CH Tontine's Moneyman, and Townshends Tullamore Star).

Murphy's breeder, Chuck Barrick, has retired to Florida to play golf instead of breeding Kerries. He is still in touch with the Hopkins at Christmas and other holidays, even after all these years.

The show photo was taken in the early to mid-1980s at the Simi Valley Kennel Club show. If anyone can identify the judge, please contact Hoppy and Janet Hopkins at jhopkinsgv@cox.net.

The magnificent informal pose was taken by Hoppy's cousin, a semi-professional photographer, and this is how Murphy is best remembered. He was Hoppy's third Kerry Blue, and Janet's first introduction to the breed. Since Murphy, the couple has owned 2 other Kerries-Can./Am. CH Mariah's Marauder of Bangor CD ("Badger") and CH Lady Florence of the Jean ("Flurry").
